Intuitive Eating is Liberating

How much time do you spend thinking about food? About rules around food? About whether your food choices are “healthy”? About what others will think of what you are eating?

Food can feel really complicated, frustrating and anxiety provoking when you have spent years dieting or following the latest “health” trend.  Diet culture has taught us to restrict; fear; and apply morality to food (meaning some foods are considered ‘good’ while others are considered ‘bad’). We feel shame if we choose foods from the ‘bad’ category. We feel judged by others or judge ourselves for what we eat. That is a lot of pressure for something that is meant to be a very natural, joyful experience.

What should really be a mind-body integration of instinct, emotion and rational thought becomes disrupted by pressure from the outside world - especially diet culture. We have been taught that our bodies can’t be trusted, and yet that trust is what helps create a peaceful relationship with food.

Trust is the foundation of intuitive eating: honouring your physical, psychological and emotional well-being by turning inward and listening to what your body is communicating to get your needs met.

Instead of living in fear, worry and rules…

  • What if you ate foods you found satisfying when hungry, and stopped eating when comfortably full?

  • What if in between eating opportunities, you stopped thinking about food, and could focus on other aspects of your life?

  • What if eating wasn’t entrenched in feelings of guilt, shame and judgement, but rather curiosity, joy and connection?

  • What if you took back the idea that you are the expert of your own body?

Eating intuitively provides you with an alternative way of relating to food. Eating intuitively is liberating. It is a release from food rules; removes the morality associated with food; and frees you from the dieting cycle.

Liberation creates more space for you to truly enjoy all that life has to offer.
